We all have those days when motivation is hard to find. It's normal and happens to everyone. But the billion dollar question is "how do we handle those days when we feel less motivated?".
It's important to first recognize why you might feel unmotivated. Overworking without breaks can exhaust you and leaving you burned out. Too many tasks can feel paralyzing and overwhelming. It's easy to feel lost when we have no direction of where we're going and having unclear goals. And we cannot forget that stress, anxiety, and physical health problems can drain our energy!
In my opinion, the best way to overcome those days where you feel a lack of motivation is by starting small. I know for some of us "small" is not even in our vocabulary because we've conditioned ourselves to go big or go home, but that's not always the answer.
When we feel unmotivated, with less energy than normal, it's important to break tasks into small, doable steps - a.k.a set tiny goals. One step at a time, one goal at a time, one day at a time. Completing even one goal will boost your morale.
It's okay to have off days! Be kind to yourself and remember that our 100% can vary from day to day. Be graceful to yourself and focus one each task at hand.
Changing your environment can help. Maybe take a walk or look for a different workspace to refresh your mind. At times all we need is to breathe different air. Talking to a friend, family, or even coworkers for support can help.
Maybe you find inspiration elsewhere like reading or listening to something positive. Books, podcasts and articles can provide a different and new perspective. Doing something you enjoy and feel passionate about like a fun hobby or remembering the goals you set in the first place.
Whichever one you choose to do, remember that feeling unmotivated is normal. Approach it with patience and take small steps to regain your drive. It’s okay to take things one day at a time. And if today none of these work for you, that's also okay. Tomorrow will be another day and you get to try again.
